Yichun Yao is a London-based artist whose practice spans installation, moving image, sound, performance, photography, text and digital media. Describing herself as a 'contemporary art comedian,' she explores the emotional, psychological and social effects of technology, AI, algorithms and big data on human relationships. Her work often employs a mix of cutting-edge tools and playful subversions—including apps, internet interventions and invented products—to disrupt familiar narratives and provoke reflection on power, control and mediated emotion. Yichun's recent projects include an art comedy series, 'Artless and Chill,' a docu-comedy exploring the latest technology, and performance pieces that question identity, surveillance and algorithmic logic.

Yichun holds an MFA from Chelsea College of Art & Design (UAL) and a BA from the China Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited internationally in countries such as UK, France, Spain and China. Exhibitions include the Canal Dream Art Festival in London (2024), AIART Gallery, IEEE ICME in France (2025), TheWrong Biennale (2024, 2025), Shanghai Art Museum (2024), Dongchao Rice Mill Contemporary Art Center (2025), Koppel Collective Gallery, Millbank Tower and LumiNoir Art Gallery. Her work was shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2025 and has been featured in various publications, including FAD Magazine in UK and Aedra Fine Arts in USA.
